How to Choose a Water Bottle Phone Holder

A water bottle phone holder keeps your phone on your cup, so you can watch or film without holding it. It is a simple idea, but the right choice depends on your cup, your phone and where you plan to use it.

What to check

  • Cup size. Measure across your cup and compare it with the listed range. Do this before you check the brand name.
  • Your phone. A magnetic holder depends on the phone and the case. Check what is included for phones without built-in magnets.
  • Viewing angle. Some holders tilt and some do not. Think about how high you will sit or stand.
  • Stability. A phone on a cup is top-heavy, especially if the cup is nearly empty. Use it on a flat, steady surface, and take care around water and moving equipment.

Using one at the gym

Some gym phone mounts stick to the machine itself. A bottle holder works differently: it stays on your cup, so it goes wherever the cup can sit safely. Make sure it is well clear of moving parts, and follow your gym's rules on filming.

Where the Whewhew strap fits

The Whewhew magnetic strap fits tumblers and bottles 3.9–5.1 in across, such as the YETI Rambler 30 oz Travel Mug and the Stanley Quencher 40 oz (H2.0). It has a built-in magnetic ring, optimized for iPhone 13 and newer, and includes a metal plate for phones without MagSafe. If you use a case, stick the adapter ring to the outside of the case.

You can rotate your phone between portrait and landscape, but the viewing angle is fixed. If you need to adjust the tilt, a tripod may suit you better.
